dsc00163.jpgWe normally do a spelling test every Friday using the language arts words the boys work with from Monday to Thursday.  Often the boys spell orally and D-11 in particular does this with theatrical flair.  Yesterday, I decided to capitalize on the nice weather and an idea I took home from the recent Homeschool Conference.  We took spelling outdoors to the back yard.  I armed the boys with sidewalk chalk and let them spell out their words on the stones I laid back there last year.  They still spelled out orally which turned out to be a good thing.  They aren’t  the neatest of printers at the best of times and trying to write words out with chalk on rocks didn’t do wonders for their penmanship!!  A good time was had by all.  D-11 is smiling because he scored 100%.
